A Well-Deserved Compensation
Feels good when you get compensated for the terrible things someone did to you, especially when itā€™s a cop. Thatā€™s the case of Clarence Gailyard, a Black man whose head was stomped on by a white South Carolina police officer. Gailyard will get a $650,000 pay out from the city of Orangeburg. And weā€™re not trying to put down South Carolina, but itā€™s not shocking to see an officer from the Palmetto state commit bad acts against the citizens. In 2021, a South Carolina police chief was sued for sending racist texts. Back in July, a Black man in South Carolina was arrested for literally no reason. So seeing a white cop from this state doing something like this isnā€™t too shocking. What is surprising to us …is the fact that something was done about it. Letā€™s quickly sum up the victimā€™s story before we go into the details of the bodycam footage here.

The Backdrop
Mr.Gailyard was stopped by the police that day after ā€œan erroneous 911 call placed stating someone out there had a gun,ā€ his lawyer, Justin Bamberg, said. Mr. Gailyard, who has had rods and pins in his body since being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle a few years ago, was holding a piece of wood wrapped in duct tape that he used to keep stray dogs away when he went walking, In a statement, the city said that in addition to an apology, Mr. Gailyard would receive the compensation paid by the cityā€™s insurance carrier. City officials said that the city would also establish a citizensā€™ task force to ā€œprovide oversight and guidance with regard to interactionsā€ between residents and the Orangeburg police.
Dukes was fired from the police and charged with first-degree attack and battery according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The Body-Cam Footage
Body-worn cameras recorded the violent incident, which took place just after 5 p.m. on July 26 as Dukes and other officers went to the Colleton Village Townhomes to investigate a 911 call about a man with a gun. An incident report alleges that a female resident had called to report a man, identified as Clarence Gailyard, 58, of Orangeburg, banging on her door and window, trying to get in. The report states that the caller said Gailyard had a gun in the waistband of his jean shorts. The caller, identified in police reports as a relative of Gailyard, later said sheā€™d never seen a gun. When officers arrived, they found Gailyard in the parking lot, holding a stick wrapped in shiny silver tape.

On the Ground
An arrest warrant released by the SLED states that Dukes ordered Gailyard and Julian to the ground at gunpoint. Both men complied, but Bamberg said injuries from a traffic accident a couple of years ago made his client move more slowly than his cousin. Gailyard has rods and surgical pins in his leg, knee and hip from the crash, in which he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. ā€œOfficer Dukes ordered my client and another individual to get on the ground, but because of my clientā€™s disability, heā€™s relatively slow,ā€ Bamberg said. ā€œHe was trying to get down as fast as he could.ā€ It apparently wasnā€™t fast enough for the officer.

New Yearā€™s Eve Machete Attack Leaves Three New York City Police Officers Injured | News18 Live

Police working New Year’s Eve detail in Times Square were wounded by a machete-wielding man who struck multiple officers in the head in what law enforcement are investigating as a possible targeted attack.

Federal and local authorities are digging into the background of 19-year-old Trevor Bickford, who allegedly attacked a group of NYPD officers outside a security screening zone in Times Square just after 10 p.m. Saturday, multiple law enforcement sources said.

Bickford, of Wells, Maine, allegedly approached the officers on Manhattan’s 8th Avenue between 51st and 52nd streets armed with a large knife he used to swing at three different officers, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at an overnight press conference.
